What is a European facial

       What is a European facial?

A European Facial is also known as a Classic Facial in Europe. It’s a deep cleansing treatment, very basic but thorough. European Facials improves skin quality and overall appearance. It should be done on a regular basis, every three to four weeks.

The life cycle of the skin layer is 28 days, so be sure to book your appointment right after the treatment to keep your skin well hydrated and healthy-looking.  It’s quick and not complicated skin treatment.

A European facial consist of…

Cleanse Your skin will be looked at under the magnifying lamp first. Based on your skin type, different cleansers are used. The Cleanser will get rid of make-up, oil, dirt, and dead skin cells. After the skin has been cleansed the face will be viewed through a large brightly lit magnifying glass again.

Exfoliation– Exfoliating the skin is the next part of a European facial. The skin expert or better known as Esthetician will decide if a chemical or physical exfoliator will be used. At Studio 29 By Marcie, we often use BT micro exfoliant to avoid any chemical or physical exfoliation. The exfoliation process will continue to get rid of dead skin cells and prepare your skin for the next part of the treatment which is ….

Steam– The steam softens the top layer of the skin ( epidermis ) and also the second layer of skin  ( debris ) so the extraction is easier to do. Steam is applied to the face for approximately 8 to 10 minutes depending on skin sensitivity. Now that the skin has some moisture and the pores are opened up the extracting of blackheads and whiteheads begins.

There are two types of comedones

  •  Blackheads, which are considered open comedones – are pockets of oxidized melanin on the surface of the skin. They usually occur when the pores in the skin become clogged with dead skin cells and oily, sweat, bacteria and other substances.

  • Whiteheads, on the other hand, are closed within the pore. They, as well as blackheads, are filled with dirt, oil, and bacteria. Specialty treatment for whiteheads are required more than blackheads. Dermatologists usually prescribe antibiotics or topical treatment, I prefer the skin to be lanced. After lancing, the whitehead usually comes out without the problem.

Extraction- Extracting is the next, necessary step in European Facials. The extraction is done by specialty tools. The skin is pulled tight because it makes the extraction easier. A small needle or lancet is used to remove more stubborn white or blackheads. Skin should be cleaned after extraction because we do not want bacteria to spread.

Facial massage- is performed right after extraction. The pressure and time of the facial massage are based on each individuals European Facial as most treatments are slightly different. Stage 3 and Stage 4 acne-prone skin should not be massaged for more than 5-8 minutes because the massage is to relax the client but too much massaging can be unpleasant. A masque is applied after the massage to calm the skin of the client down. After every masque, the skin should be toned, moisturized and SPF should be used.

How much time does a European Facial take out of your busy life?

A European facial typically takes between 60-90 minutes. These days most people are very busy so an “ express facial “ is available. This type of facial usually takes around 30 mins of your time. They include cleansing, exfoliation, a mask, toning, and moisturizing. It is a quick fix before special meeting or many enjoy to get their skin treat before heading home from a stressful day.

At our Day Spa, Studio 29 by Marcie we like to spoil our clients with the best. We often add High-Frequency Treatment or LED light therapy into treatments, a  popular part of European Facial would be the specialty massage, where we are using the specialty lymph system massage technique and reiki.

As a European born skincare specialist, I take pride in providing my clients with a relaxing massage. It’s very important to let the client know, that she or he is most important in the world. I do provide Reiki at the end of massage time because I know how much that will help physically and especially mentally.
